J Hill and Sons has been part of the Wigton community since 1876, with six generations of our family caring for local families through some of life’s most difficult moments.
Our business began with Joseph Hill, a joiner and cabinet maker whose work included coffin making and undertaking. Over the generations, we have continued that tradition from the same Station Road premises, combining craftsmanship, experience and personal care.
We understand that no two funerals are the same. We take time to listen carefully, guide families gently through decisions, and help create farewells that feel personal and meaningful.
Alongside arranging funerals, we have maintained our connection to traditional joinery and coffin making, something that remains an important part of the care we provide.
For generations, families across Wigton, Cumbria and beyond have placed their trust in us for knowledge, reassurance and steady support at a time when it matters most.
Today, we work as a close family team. Paul and Jonny lead the funeral home as father and son, supported by the wider family. Paul’s wife Lesley, and their daughters Jo and Claire, all play an active part in the business, along with a trusted team of colleagues.
We work together in the same way we always have, continuing a tradition of personal care, attention and support for every family we look after.
